About

St Stephen’s House is an Anglican Theological Foundation which has as its primary work the formation of candidates for the priesthood in the Church of England.  The college welcomes applications from all candidates who wish to be formed in its distinctive ethos, which takes its inspiration from the spirit of the Catholic movement, in the city where that revival began.

Our students study for a variety of qualifications as their validated pathway for ordination, and share a common life of pastoral, liturgical and spiritual formation.  The college is situated in East Oxford, a vibrant and challenging community, while at the same time offering students the opportunity to participate in the broader life of one of the world’s great University cities.

In more recent years our educational work has expanded to embrace different sorts of ministry and different ways of learning: we offer University of Oxford qualifications to clergy and lay workers as well as to ordinands, and through the Edward King Centre and the Institute of Sacred Music offer the Common Award at all levels to those who wish to continue their studies in theology, ministry and mission.
